TMA Director Brian Kennedy to discuss ‘Censorship in the Arts’ Feb. 26 | Arts & Culture

SYLVANIA, OH (PRESS RELEASE) - Lourdes University recently announced “Censorship in the Arts,” will be the topic of the 2012 Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak Lecture Series. The presentation is scheduled for Sunday, February 26, at 2 p.m. at the Franciscan Center in Sylvania. The guest lecturer is Dr. Brian Kennedy, Director of the Toledo Museum of Art. Dr. Kennedy is a respected historian, curator and art historian and has extensive experience in senior leadership positions at art museums in Australia, Ireland and the United States.

“We are extremely pleased to have Dr. Brian Kennedy present for our lecture series,” said Erin Palmer Szavuly, Chair of the Art Department. “Dr. Kennedy’s vast knowledge and engaging personality will provide for a very enjoyable and informative afternoon.”

The Lourdes University Lecture Series was established in 2011 by Lourdes alumnus George Brymer and his wife Vicky. Mr. Brymer received both his bachelor and master’s degrees from Lourdes and is the President of All Square, Inc., and author of Vital Integrities: How Values-Based Leaders Acquire and Preserve Their Credibility and Franciscanomics: Uplifting Stories for a down Economy. The purpose behind the series is to give students an opportunity to learn from and communicate directly with individuals working in art related fields.

Sr. Jane Mary Sorosiak, OSF, is an accomplished professor and artist. After teaching at Cardinal Stritch High School for 14 years, she joined the Lourdes community, where she served for nearly 30 years as Assistant Professor for the Art Department. Her ceramic and mural works are on display across the nation, from Texas to California to Ohio.
