TOLEDO, OH (Toledo News Now) - Toledo Edison reported a transformer blew near Talmadge Road and Laskey Road, causing power outages in Lucas County. Areas affected included west Toledo, Sylvania and Sylvania Township.
This includes businesses around Westfield Franklin Park Mall, which had to open two hours late.
Around 5,000 households and businesses lost power around 5:30 a.m. The cause was equipment failure, according to a Toledo Edison spokesperson, and not thunderstorms in the area.
By 11 a.m., about half of the outages were restored, including parts of the mall. The goal was to have all power restored by noon Thursday, but only the mall was completely restored then.
Toledo Edison said that as of 2 p.m. all power was restored.
Restaurants, like Jimmy John's, had to turn customers away during the outage.
"We did a little bit of cleaning, but as far as the power being out, most of the store was dark back there. You know, people were still rolling up, looking for food, and we still had people calling for it. But it was a little bit of a fiasco," said Nick Domitio, of Jimmy John's.
